'We'll need them': Andy Garner calls for Mansfield Town fans in full volume for Notts County clash

Andy Garner hopes Mansfield Town will give the fans the result they deserve this weekend in the Nottinghamshire Derby.

With Notts County’s return to League One, derby action is back in the calendar and starts on Saturday at the One Call Stadium.

Stags enter the clash in fine form, with two strong away wins under their belt from last week. They are also now six games unbeaten and will be hoping to keep that form running strong after facing the Magpies.

First team coach Andy Garner has called for Mansfield Town fans to rally behind them this weekend as they push for a big Derby Day result.

He reflected on the moment shared at full-time between the team and the fans who braved the bad weather to watch last weekend’s 4-1 win over Blackpool. A rain-soaked Nigel Clough rallied the cheering supporters while an animated Liam Roberts enjoyed leading more post-match celebrations.

“We love our supporters, there’s no doubt about that. You could see the emotions in the gaffer’s eyes on Saturday,” Garner said during this week’s press conference.

“We keep saying it but there’s no better pleasing moment than going over to the fans. You look at them and they’re wet through… there’s no better thing for us. We absolutely love it.”

Garner then said Stags will need the home fans to be right behind them this weekend when they face Notts County. The first Nottinghamshire Derby of the season is a blockbuster event in the calendar and Mansfield Town are eager to make sure it’s a win.

Opposition teams often talk about how tough it is to visit and perform at the One Call Stadium, with the home fans known for creating a big atmosphere. Garner has called for the Stags faithful to do what they do best and get behind them on Saturday.

“They’ve been fantastic for all the time we’ve been here and I’m sure they will be fantastic on Saturday, because we’ll need them. We need them every week but we will need them Saturday and hopefully we can put on a performance for them.”
