Manager praises attacking away victory...

Nigel Clough was delighted to see his Mansfield Town side make it four straight League Two wins... now he wants them to make it five.

The Stags left Oldham with a 3-2 victory last night, Harry Charsley, Ryan Sweeney and Jamie Reid on target on a night when Jordan Bowery saw a penalty fly wide of the target.

“It is brilliant," Clough told iFollow Stags. "We’re going to try and make it five against the league leaders (Carlisle, on Saturday).

"It’s brilliant for confidence – especially after Sunday (FA Cup defeat at Cheltenham).

“To win four games on the spin at this stage of the season is a brilliant achievement for the players.”

The result saw the Stags move up to 12th in the table.

“We wanted three strikers up there. Home and away, we like to play the same – we like to attack teams and try to score goals," Clough said.

“We have another three goals on the road, and we’re thrilled with the performance and the points."

In-form Bowery couldn't convert from 12 yards seconds before the interval, but Reid gave the visitors what ended up being a vital two-goal cushion minutes into the second half.

“We’d have loved to go into half-time 3-1 up, I think that would’ve killed the game at half-time. But for Reidy to get the goal so quickly after half-time, it was a blow to them and gave us that lift.

“I thought we managed the game very well after that. George Lapslie hit the bar, and we managed it so they had very few opportunities after that.

“I thought we had five or six really good chances in the first-half, so we were asking ourselves how were we losing 1-0."

Keeper Aiden Stone was one of three changes to the Mansfield starting XI.

It wasn't a great start as he conceded a soft goal in the first 10 minutes. But from then on he pulled off a series of important saves to help ensure victory at Boundary Park.

Stoney had very little to do in the game, but what he did do was make a magnificent save at the end,” Clough said.
