Mansfield Town Ladies stay perfect with another statement promotion-chasing win

Another impressive result for Mansfield Town Ladies sees them stretch their lead at the top of the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League.

Stags were out on the road on Sunday to face Stamford AFC in Lincolnshire, where they put in another dominant league performance.

Andi Bell’s side banked their fifth win from five this season as they continue their impressive promotion charge and stand tall at the top of the table.

Goals from Summer Reece, Katie Platts, Millie Mellors and Mia Newton secured the victory to take Mansfield Town up to 15 points, seven clear of their closest rivals.

Loughborough Foxes, Doncaster Belles and Newport Pagnell Town all linger behind Stags with eight points each.

“That was probably one of the best games we’ve played all season,” Bell reflected on the performance. “I’m not going to lie, it probably could have been a couple more and that wouldn’t have been flattering to us at all.

“We wanted to be aggressive from the start, we’ve done a lot of work on pressing. I thought everyone was superb from the start. We scored some really good goals, even the ones we didn’t quite score – the combination play and movement was excellent.”

The result over Stamford keeps Mansfield’s perfect run ticking over in statement fashion. Not only have Bell’s side won maximum points so far, they are still yet to concede a single league goal this season and are undoubtedly favourites for the title at this point.

“It’s important to be really tight at the back, it allows you to be more creative when you’ve got your shape sorted,” the manager continued. “They fully deserve the clean sheets, today in particular, they’ve done really well again.”
