New ONS figures suggest business is on the decline in Mansfield
Number of businesses in Mansfield drops by 2.5 per cent
The number of businesses in Mansfield fell for the second year in a row, new statistics have revealed.

There were 2,980 VAT or PAYE-registered businesses in Mansfield in March 2026, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), down from 3,055 a year earlier and 3,240 in 2024. It represents a fall of 2.5 per cent in a year and 8 per cent over two years.
Mansfield's one-year fall was the third largest of 361 council areas in the UK, and over two years only Torfaen in South Wales has seen a steeper decline. It came last of the 35 council areas in the East Midlands.
More businesses are still closing than opening in the town. In the 12 months to June 2026, 315 new businesses were created in Mansfield and 390 closed. In the previous 12 months, 380 opened and 505 closed.
The picture is very different next door with Ashfield growing two per cent over the same year, to 3,120 businesses, and now having more firms than Mansfield.
