Policing initiative tackling community issues launches in Nottinghamshire

A new policing initiative focused on tackling the issues that matter most to local communities is being launched across the policing areas of Nottinghamshire.

Operation Nexus will see Nottinghamshire Police deploy enhanced resources into areas experiencing increased crime, anti-social behaviour, or other concerns identified through crime data, local intelligence and feedback from residents.

Unlike a traditional policing operation focused on a single location, Operation Nexus will move across the county, targeting neighbourhoods where additional support is needed most.

By concentrating resources in specific areas, the initiative aims to address local concerns, reduce crime and improve public confidence.

The operation is built around a Clear, Hold, Build approach. This means taking decisive action to address the immediate issue, maintaining a visible presence to prevent problems returning, and supporting longer-term improvements that help communities thrive.

The approach has already been trialled in Sutton, with lessons learned helping to shape the wider county launch. The next deployment is planned for Harworth, where activity will focus on addressing an increase in vehicle crime and responding to concerns raised by the local community.

Superintendent Chris Sutcliffe, County Commander for Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Operation Nexus is about focusing our efforts on the issues that matter most to local people."

"We know that what matters in one community may be different in another. In some areas it may be vehicle crime, in others it may be anti-social behaviour, drug-related activity or concerns about violence.

"Operation Nexus gives us the ability to direct additional resources into those areas and tackle the issues having the greatest impact on residents."

"This isn't a one-off operation and it isn't tied to a single location. It will move around the county, using crime data, local intelligence and community feedback to identify where we can make the biggest difference."

"Our neighbourhood policing teams know their communities best. Operation Nexus gives them access to additional support and specialist resources when they are needed, allowing us to respond quickly to emerging issues and deliver a highly visible policing presence."

"Most importantly, this is about listening to our communities. When residents tell us there is a problem, and our data and intelligence support that, we want to be in a position to act. Operation Nexus gives us another way of doing exactly that."
