Latest fitness update on George Abbott and potential Mansfield Town return date
Summer signing George Abbott is yet to feature for Mansfield Town this season as he continues to work on his match fitness.
The midfielder signed for Stags on a season-long loan on Deadline Day, following plenty of speculation over his return. Abbott spent the second half of last season at the One Call Stadium and he will complete a second loan stint in amber and blue.

Stags fans were impressed with the impact Abbott had on the team last season and many were keen to see him come back, but they are having to be patient while he works on his fitness.
Abbott arrived at Mansfield Town still recovering from an injury and he is yet to make his first appearance this season.
“He won’t be fully fit when he arrives and we’ll have to give him a few weeks until he’s available, but the deal reflects that,” Nigel Clough said at the time of signing the Tottenham Hotspur academy graduate.
Abbott was enjoying regular minutes with Stags last season but his run was cut short after picking up a ‘serious quad injury’, according to reports in London at the time. Now, the 21-year-old is working towards his return and getting valuable minutes under his belt while Mansfield Town tackle a tough League One campaign.
When asked about Abbott’s progress during the mid-week press conference, Clough said: “He’s not going to be ready just yet, he will be ready after the international break. He’ll be a few weeks yet.
“With Jon Russell missing, George Maris is deputising very well at the moment but we could do with George Abbott available as soon as possible.”
Stags have missed the influence of Russell over the last three games but he has been called up to represent Jamaica for the upcoming international break. Mansfield Town have confirmed their clash with Leyton Orient on Saturday, 26 September has been postponed, as Lucas Akins and Nathan Moriah-Welsh will also be on international duty.
