Passenger killed in Nottinghamshire crash is named

Mark Hunter, aged 35, was a front seat passenger in a car that hit a tree in Hawton Road, Newark, on Sunday, August 28.

The incident happened just after 9am, when, Nottinghamshire Police said, a suspected stolen car failed to stop for officers in Newark.

Emergency services were called to the scene, where Mr Hunter, from Mapperley, Nottingham, died from his injuries.

Anthony Riley, of Forest Road, Clipstone, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing death by driving while disqualified, aggravated vehicle taking and failing to provide a specimen for analysis in connection with incident.

The 32-year-old has appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court when his case was adjourned to a later date. Riley was remanded in custody.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
