Nottingham author’s new children’s book warns of global warming
Nottingham author Ian C Douglas’ new children’s book, The Ravenshead Terrors, depicts a near future where worldwide flooding transforms the East Midlands into tropical islands.
Society breaks down, ruthless extremists seize power, crocodiles and sharks abound, and deadly contagion ravages the population.

Into this doomsday scenario, genetically enhanced teenagers struggle to survive.
The Ravenshead Terrors is published by IFWG International and launches internationally on September 18.
Ian, known for award-winning and best-selling books such as the Zeke Hailey Adventures and a Children’s History of Nottinghamshire, hopes to highlight climate change through storytelling for middle grade readers, aged nine to 12.
The Ravenshead Terrors is the first of a trilogy about the consequences of climate upheaval.
Ian said: “The consensus among climate scientists is that we cannot now stop manmade global heating.
"I have no doubt this will be a major challenge for the lives of our children and grandchildren.
"And I blame my generation for not doing more.
"Still, my job as an author is to get readers thinking. If I can raise their awareness now, hopefully they will be better prepared for this future.”
Ian is well known on Nottingham’s literary scene for his work with Nottingham Writers Studio, East Midland’s Society of Authors, the Nottingham Book Festival, Nottingham Trent University’s Creative Writing courses, and previously for his monthly appearances on Notts TV.
He is also one of Left Lion’s editors.
