Cllr Peacock said: “Our council waste services are stretched at the moment with Covid, it would normally get sorted out quite quickly. I reported it a couple of weeks ago to Newark and Sherwood that it was building up again, they said it might be a while before they could get to it. I decided to do it myself to help them out and get people to volunteer.

"It’s all properly socially distanced and organised for health and safety. If anyone wants to help out it is a great way to get out of being stuck in the house during lock down. Doing voluntary work is allowed. I am hoping we can organise teams of litter pickers.”

“It’s a stretch of road where rubbish fast food litter seems to gather. I hope the people who throw this litter out of their cars will drive past and see the volunteers clearing up their mess. I’d hope it would prick their conscience. People want to live in a clean environment.”

Anyone interested in joining in Cllr Peacock’s litter pick activities should contact him first through his Facebook page. It is for adults only and people are asked to wear masks, high viz and sturdy shoes.
