In 2024, we reported on several stories from across the community, including devastating fires, events and exhibitions, fundraising efforts and campaigns.
We also covered significant political changes in the region, such as the historic election of an East Midlands Mayor in May and the appointment of a new MP for Mansfield in July.
Additionally, we followed Mansfield Town FC after their promotion to League One.
Here is your 2024 in review…

21. Southwell Racecourse opens following flooding
In August, Southwell Racecourse returned to full operational capacity for the first time since the racecourse was closed due to extensive flooding in October 2023. Racing initially returned to Southwell only a month after its flooding in November 2023, however, areas of the racecourse remained underwater by as much as three feet after Storm Babet battered Britain in the autumn of 2023. The track was only able to open its first-floor facilities to owners and trainers, stable staff and a number of annual members as the racecourse worked hard to fix the damage. 22. Nottingham nuclear bunker visit
In September, your Chad received an invitation to visit a nuclear bunker located in a quiet residential area on the outskirts of Nottingham, just a short distance from Wollaton Park. The bunker was decommissioned in the early 1980s and was briefly used as a storage facility for DEFRA and the Land Registry before it was ultimately closed and left frozen in time. Photo: Brian Eyre

23. Pumpkin patch
In October, we visited several pumpkin patches in the area. At Maxeys Pumpkin Patch, we saw Kate, Chris, Henry, and Lara (pictured). Photo: Brian Eyre

24. Sherwood Observatory visit
In October, we visited Sherwood Observatory, which unveiled its new refurbishment. Sherwood Observatory was officially opened in 1986 by the Astronomer Royal, Professor Sir Francis Graham-Smith.
