In 2024, we reported on several stories from across the community, including devastating fires, events and exhibitions, fundraising efforts and campaigns.
We also covered significant political changes in the region, such as the historic election of an East Midlands Mayor in May and the appointment of a new MP for Mansfield in July.
Additionally, we followed Mansfield Town FC after their promotion to League One.
Here is your 2024 in review…

5. Our friends at Doggy Dens
Earlier this year, we visited Doggy Dens UK Rescue in Cuckney and took some photos of the site to showcase their work and share updates on the dogs seeking a forever home. Rescue founder, Denise Hardwick and site manager, Jade Sheldon with Bruce. Photo: Brian Eyre

6. Mansfield's music scene
Whether artists are busking in town, performing at pub gigs, making music together or touring the country, Mansfield is home to talented musicians, and as a district, we certainly love our music. In February of this year, we shared a photo article about some of the talented musicians on the Mansfield music scene. Photo: Sam Murray, Andrew Hawkins, Wes Dolan, Warren Ireland and Ken Bonsall. 7. Tributes paid to Julia Holmes
A woman paid tribute to her best friend following her sudden passing in February by launching a fundraising page to cover funeral costs. Kayleigh, who worked as Julia Holmes' personal assistant and carer for ten years, expressed that Julia had become her best friend and a member of her family. The fundraising effort raised over £1,000. Reflecting on her loss, Kayleigh remarked that Julie's passing created a significant void in many people's lives. She added: “We could all learn a lot from Ju. She was such a fighter." Photo: Chad

8. Oar Blimey
George Nelson and his brother-in-law Russ Davis., known as Oar Blimey, successfully completed their 3,500-nautical-mile Atlantic voyage as part of their fundraising efforts for Our Dementia Choir with Vicky McClure and Ladybrook Enterprises. Over £37,000 has been raised so far, with donations still welcome. The duo set sail on December 1, 2023, and made it to their destination on Thursday, March 7. Photo: George
