Ram raiders attack shop with mechanical digger in a village near Mansfield, sparking dramatic police pursuit

The suspects drove a JCB construction vehicle into the Co-op in Main Street and caused signficant damage at 2.20am today (Wednesday, July 15).

Despite the attack the ATM wasn’t taken, although Nottinghamshire Police say it is unknown at this time whether any cash was taken from the machine.

A cordon remains in place outside the shop as detectives continue with their investigations.

The suspects fled the scene in a white Nissan pick-up and a black Audi and a police chase began as officers spotted the truck heading along the A614 towards Ollerton.

During the pursuit the truck veered off into a field in Belph and the driver was then rammed into a pursuing police vehicle which continued to follow it before the suspects got out and fled on foot.

Nottinghamshire Police's Drone Team and a police helicopter searched the area but no suspects or the black Audi have been located.

Detective Inspector Kim Binns said: “Our investigation into this incident is still in its early stages and we are committed to doing all that we can to trace the people responsible.

"We understand that incidents like this can be very concerning for communities but I want to reassure people that we are working very hard on this investigation and are doing all we can to trace those responsible.

“We are currently following a number of lines of enquiry and as part of this we want to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information which may aid our investigation.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who believes they may have seen the vehicles fleeing the scene, anyone who believes that they may know who the offenders are or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage of them arriving at or leaving the scene."
