A Mansfield teen with convictions for dangerous driving was chased by police on his moped before being found with an illegal CS gas canister, a court heard.

Callum Bradbury had just turned 18 when the police pursuit took place on July 26, 2024, and the weapon was found when his home was searched, said Lucy Woodcock, prosecuting.

He is currently serving a 12-month jail term, suspended for two years, imposed for dangerous driving at Nottingham Crown Court in January 2025.

And he received a 12-month community order after pleading guilty to possessing a class B drug with intent to supply on May 19, this year.

Morgan Hogarth, mitigating, said the case was over two years old and Bradbury has since appeared in court for "two significant matters."

“(The canister) was not taken out or used and there is no suggestion he used it to threaten anyone,” he said.

He said a financial penalty would be an appropriate punishment because of Bradbury’s age at the time, his prompt guilty plea, and the age of the offence.

“He was in a very different place at the time,” Mr Hogarth added. “He was under pressure at the address he was lving in.

"He is now formally a carer for his mother. He has been attending probation appointments to the best of his ability.”

Bradbury, now 20, of Mayfield Close, Mansfield, admitted possessing a weapon designed for the discharge of gas, when he appeared at Mansfield Magistrates Court, on Tuesday, September 1.

He was fined £162, with a £65 surcharge and £85 costs.

The crown court will be notified of the new offence.
