Kirkby man charged with murder and attempted murder after fatal collision

A Kirkby man has been charged with murder and attempted murder after a fatal collision on Saturday, August 8.

A 29-year-old man died following the crash in Southwell Lane, Kirkby-in-Ashfield at around 7.45pm on Saturday.

Another man, 19, who also suffered serious injuries in the collision, remains stable in hospital.

John Jefferies, 31, of Southwell Close, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, was charged with murder and attempted murder in relation to the fatal crash yesterday (August 10) and will appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court today.

A woman who was also arrested in connection with the investigation has been released with no further action.

Detective Chief Inspector Rob Routledge, who is leading the investigation, said: "The charge is a significant step in the investigation but we would still like to hear from anyone with information or dash-cam footage who has not yet come forward.

"If you have any information please call 101, quoting incident number 792 of 8 August 2020."
