Notts police officer joins community care group

Each volunteer has designated streets where they have posted leaflets containing their details to offer assistance with things like shopping, fetching urgent supplies, posting mail or just a friendly phone call.

She said: “The response to our services has been absolutely amazing and there is a real sense of community spirit in town. It is great to be part of something positive during such a difficult time, and I’d urge anyone who has the opportunity, to help those in need.”

The group, which now has more than 5200 members, was set up by Papplewick Green resident Kate Edwards.

"We managed to cover around 95 per cent of the streets in the town in just a few days," she said.

“I’ve been really inspired by the sense of community here since I came to Hucknall a few years ago, and to see people looking out for each other in this way is truly amazing.

“I’m really grateful to those who have come forward to help out and would like to say a huge thank you to local companies Another Mother Ltd and Nottingham Printing Ltd for their donations."

The advice is not to go out unless you absolutely have to and although many volunteers are carrying out essential duties, they must still follow rules around keeping themselves and others safe by washing hands regularly, wearing gloves and staying at least two metres away from others.
