Broxtowe Council pushing plans for new £20m Eastwood Wellbeing Hub
Broxtowe Council is now actively seeking external funding to bring a £20m investment to the town for a health and wellbeing hub.
Together with NHS and community partners, the council has developed plans for the centre on the former library site on Walker Street, aiming to bring together health, wellbeing, advice, and support services to the heart of Eastwood.

Proposals include a new GP surgery, pharmacy, library, boxing club and women’s services.
Statistics from the area consistently report higher levels of deprivation in Eastwood, showcasing the need for the Wellbeing Hub.
Eastwood Primary Care Centre reports significantly higher levels of long-term health conditions among patients than the county average with rates of type 2 diabetes 30 per cent higher, cancer 45 per cent higher, stroke 50 per cent higher and heart disease 70 per cent higher.
Employment and education statistics also report that a quarter of residents have no formal qualifications compared to an 18 per cent national average, with only 19 per cent holding a level four or above qualification, compared with a 34 per cent national average.
In December 2025, the council committed an extra £140,000 to further develop plans, which included a comprehensive design for the building, site layout and a business plan showing how the centre can be financially sustainable.
Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) has also committed £250,000 thus far to the project.
Securing funding for the project is a priority, with it now well positioned should funding become available, as the council remains committed to securing improved services and significant investment for the Eastwood community.
Coun Milan Radulovic (Brox All), council leader, met with East Midlands mayor Claire Ward (Lab), alongside members of Broxtowe’s Economic Development Team in Eastwood to discuss the need for such a facility in the town, which has become more apparent following the recent temporary closure of Eastwood Library.
Coun Radulovic said: “For too long Eastwood has lagged behind the rest of the country in terms of health, opportunities, and investment – and we are determined to change that.
“An Eastwood Wellbeing Hub would provide quality and accessible health and wellbeing support and services for so many residents that have not previously had access to these facilities, allowing them to lead healthier, more independent lives.
“We have invested significant money, officer time and resources into developing the plans to this point, and we’re now at a stage where we can present plans and a strong bid to external funding bodies and regional leaders, such as the East Midlands Combined County Authority.”
