The 1,750,000 square foot fulfilment centre has been built on Summit Park, located off the Mansfield and Ashfield Regeneration Route (MARR), which had stood empty for almost ten years waiting for a requirement of this size to come along.

Recruitment for more than 1,000 roles at the centre is now underway.

Cllr Jason Zadrozny, leader of Ashfield District Council, said: “This is possibly the largest ever single investment in the Ashfield area and in the region as a whole.

“Ashfield District Council has worked hard to attract a large multinational to the district, and that hard work has paid off.

"An investment like this is a real game changer for the district and the amount of further investment it will bring will have an incredible effect on Ashfield.”

Amazon plan to open the fulfilment centre in the autumn and jobs will be advertised via the Amazon jobs website, including everything from IT, HR and finance roles to trainers, engineers and operations managers.

Carol Cooper-Smith, ADC chief executive, said: “The site was originally infrastructured to attract a business of this size, and through the hard work of all involved, securing a multinational organisation like Amazon will bring real benefits to the district. Investment attracts investment, and with that comes high quality jobs and incredible career opportunities for Ashfield residents.

"Building aspirations is something the council are committed to achieving and the possibilities companies like Amazon can bring to the district are endless.”

Plans also include a bus route and onsite bus station that will ensure jobs are accessible to all.

Cllr Zadrozny added: “At a time when many industries are cutting jobs due to the effects of coronavirus, having over 1,000 new jobs coming to Ashfield will have a significant impact on the district.
