Ryan Sweeney is to leave Mansfield Town Football Club after three years.

The defender's departure was revealed as the club announced their retained list today.

Chad understands Sweeney's departure was a mutual decision.

The club did have an option in the centre half's contract to extend the stay of the former Stoke City player.

However, the 24-year-old, who also had spells skippering the side, is understood to have wanted a fresh challenge elsewhere.

Sweeney made 122 appearances in the Amber & Blue, scoring seven goals.

The club also had an option to extend striker Andy Cook's contract but elected not to activate it.

Goalkeeper Aidan Stone and striker Nicky Maynard are the other main names to be released while keeper Marek Stech and defender Corey O'Keeffe have been transfer-listed.

Stags have begun negotiations with veteran midfielder Stephen Quinn's representatives about a potential return with him being out of contract at Burton this summer and keeper Pardington may also come back for another loan spell if Wolves and the player are agreeable.
