Mansfield Town vs Luton Town preview: League One stats, latest results, H2H record, injury news

Mansfield Town will host their penultimate home game of the 2025/26 season on Saturday, when Luton Town make the next trip in their promotion-hopeful push.

Jack Wilshere’s Hatters are still fighting for a place in the play-offs and know they need as many points as possible from their final four games of the League One season. Meanwhile, Stags are still not yet mathematically safe from the danger zone but are ‘near as dammit’, in Nigel Clough’s view.

Mansfield enter Saturday’s clash following their 0-0 draw with Leyton Orient midweek. The result came after last weekend’s visit to Wigan Athletic ended their eight-game unbeaten streak.

“With five games to go, we’re not mathematically safe but near as dammit,” Clough said after the Orient draw on Tuesday. “Exeter have got to win all three games and in the end, I think both teams [Stags and Orient] were happy with a point.

"It edges Orient a little bit closer to safety and certainly it gets us up towards halfway in the league – 54 points and goal difference should be enough, which means let’s have a go in the last five games and see if we can improve on that tally. It took us 46 games to get to this point last season and now we’ve done it in 41.”

Stags will host Luton at the One Call Stadium on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm.

Mansfield Town vs Luton Town League One latest form

Stags’ defeat to Wigan is their first since 21st February, when Lincoln City beat them 2-1. Their draw against Orient was their sixth 0-0 stalemate this season and 15th overall in League One. Clough’s side have both won and lost 13 games and have the joint-second best defensive record in the league at this point.

Luton Town are unbeaten in seven games and have won five of those, including their last three. Their latest 2-1 result against Northampton Town resulted in the Cobblers’ relegation from League One. Hatters are currently seventh in the table, just three points behind sixth-placed Stevenage, with a superior goal difference should they end up level.

Luton have won 18 games so far this season, while drawing 10 and losing 14. They have four games left to find a way into the play-off bracket.

These two sides have met each other 25 times at league level, with Stags winning on 10 occasions compared to Luton’s seven. The other eight ended as draws.

Mansfield have won just once in their last seven meetings with Luton – their clash at Kenilworth Road earlier this season. Goals from Rhys Oates and Tyler Roberts secured a 2-0 win on the road for Stags. Prior to last year’s meeting, they last beat Hatters back in 2015 when the two sides were competing in League Two.

Mansfield Town injury latest

Stags have reported that Saturday may be ‘too soon’ for the return of goalkeeper Liam Roberts but he is expected to be available before the end of the season.
