Mansfield travel to Newport County on Saturing having drawn two of their first three League Two matches.

But Coughlan knows it’s early days and is confident the quality of his side will eventually shine through.

“We can't get too down about it or too beaten up,” he said. “We want to win every week and that's what we are focusing on.

“A lot of us can see beyond and see the bigger picture. We won't get too down, I'm very confident that it will come sooner rather than later.

“I'm big enough to know what football is if we didn't start winning. We don't want to give us too much to do, but it is very early.

“I will wait until 8-10 games before I start to judge, panic or think about what we do next.”

And Coughlan believes the work-rate and desire of the players will see his side good in time.

“If only you could see the work the lads do in training, the talent they have and effort they put in, he added. “There is plenty of good work being done and that has to pay off.

“The mindset of the place wasn't in a good place and when you bring new players together that naturally takes time.

“I'm the worst person in the world to talk to about time. I want it here and now like the fans.

“It's not just a football team we are trying to fix, we are trying to lay down foundations.

“We are trying to build a club here. I want to take it on and build but I will only be judged on results and not on what is in the background.”
