Leyton Orient vs Mansfield Town preview: Latest form, League One stats, H2H, injury news

Mansfield Town will be looking to dust themselves off against Leyton Orient after they saw their eight-game unbeaten League One run end last weekend.

On Saturday, Stags suffered their first league defeat since February as Wigan Athletic pipped them to an important three points to lift themselves further away from the bottom four.

Lucas Akins countered Latics’ opening goal to make it 1-1 but a second half penalty from Joe Taylor denied the travelling side a positive result. Frazer Blake-Tracy gave away the spot-kick and Wigan’s top scorer converted past Anthony Nunez, who marked his first appearance in goal for Stags.

Nigel Clough was left disappointed with the result at the Brick Community Stadium as his side’s unbeaten run of form came to a frustrating end.

“Disappointing to give an eight-game unbeaten run up in that fashion,” the manager said post-match. “We’ve defended unbelievably well this season in 39 games to have the third-best defensive record and then to give it away in such a manner today – very, very disappointed.”

Stags remain on 53 points and six clear of the danger zone but they are still not yet mathematically safe. They have six games left to guarantee their League One survival, starting with Tuesday’s opponents Leyton Orient.

The O’s are currently 19th in the table, three points below Mansfield Town having played two games more. They will welcome Stags to Brisbane Road for a 7.45pm kick-off.

Orient enter Tuesday’s clash winless in their last four fixtures. Prior to that, they enjoyed a four-game winning streak against Stevenage, Peterborough, Wimbledon and Wycombe. Richie Wellens’ side lost 2-1 to Lincoln City last time out – their 20th defeat of the League One campaign.

Stags will be disappointed to see their eight-game unbeaten run come to an end and will be hoping to put the Wigan defeat firmly behind them. Mansfield had drawn to Wimbledon, Rotherham, Barnsley, Bradford and Burton, and beat Reading, Northampton and Doncaster.

Stags now have the fourth-best defensive record in the league, with 43 goals conceded from 40 games. Orient’s record in defence is statistically the worst in League One, having shipped 66 goals so far. However, they have more goals in their favour out of the two, with 57 scored compared to Stags’ 50.

Mansfield Town vs Leyton Orient H2H

Mansfield Town and Leyton Orient have faced each other on 63 occasions before now and the opposition have a clear edge when it comes to wins. The O’s have won 31 times compared to Stags’ 16, while the other 16 games ended in draws.

Mansfield did beat Orient last time out this season though, in an impressive 4-1 win at the One Call Stadium. Goals from Will Evans and Luke Bolton, plus a Regan Hendry brace ensured a convincing win on home soil. Prior to that, Stags lost four on the bounce against the East London side.

Mansfield Town injury latest

Both Liam Roberts and Harry Lewis were absent from Stags’ clash with Wigan Athletic. Lewis’ wife went into labour in the early hours of Saturday, while Roberts’ calf injury continues to be assessed.

Baily Cargill remains unavailable and will not return before the end of the season.

“We’ll have a good think about the team and the availability of the players, and who we want to play,” Clough said at the weekend.
