John Johnston eager for Alfreron’s season to kick off

Alfreton Town winger John Johnston says he can’t believe what a difference a few weeks makes and he is impatient for the new season to start.

The former Crewe Alexandra player was one of the very few bright spots of the 2014/15 relegation season as he impressed after joining firstly on loan from the Railwaymen and then on an 18-month contract, weighing in with a flurry of goals amongst several eye-catching displays.

“The drop in division doesn’t bother me because everything is new and a lot more positive this time around already,” he said.

“Training is loads better. The players seem closer together this time around, it is a total contrast to last season. Perhaps it’s got something to do with the squad nearly all being from the same age range, but there is a definite togetherness.

“Training has been different class to be fair. It’s like being back at Crewe. There is a great sharpness and tempo, everyone has come off and said the same.”

John enjoyed a man of the match performance and netted a great goal in Alfreton’s 4-1 win at Buxton last Friday night.

“It was good for the confidence,” he added John.

“I already felt good in training on the Tuesday and Thursday and I feel loads more confident this year.

“I like the looks of the new signings and there is plenty of energy about the team.

“Hopefully we can get in and around the play-offs and be challenging, especially with the group of players the management are putting together.

“We have got a good core of the team already and things are looking promising” ended Johnston.
