FA Trophy: Alfreton Town look to move one step nearer to Wembley

Alfreton Town return to the FA Trophy trail on Saturday when they travel to take on Vanarama Conference rivals FC Halifax Town in a second round tie at the Shay.

Reds manager Nicky Law will be without defender Dan Gray who has joined Bradford Park Avenue on a month’s loan, striker Carl Lamb whose loan period from Chesterfield has ended, and defender Cliff Byrne who has left the club after rejecting the terms of a contract offered to him.

Aside from that, Law has no suspensions to contend with but he will need a late fitness check on midfield player Dan Bradley who has a slight thigh strain ahead of what is another tough-looking game in West Yorkshire.

Law is expecting another testing game against Neil Aspin’s side but he feels his side can go and record a first ever Reds win at the Shay, a ground where the Reds have yet to score after two successive 2-0 defeats in the past two seasons.

“It is a tough place to go at the best of times and our record there is pretty shocking” said Law.

“But, we know what we are expecting from them, we know what we have got to do and we have just got to go and do it. We are aware of where we need to improve but we are capable of doing it.

“It would be good to get through to the next round and hopefully land a plum home tie. The revenue would be good for the club.”
