Barber goal earns Glapwell draw against Thoresby Colliery

An Ash Barber goal 17 minutes from time earned Glapwell a 1-1 draw at home to Thoresby Colliery Welfare, writes Paul Hepworth.

With Craig Humphreys again in charge of the side, Glapwell would have been looking for three points but had to settle for only one against a spirited Thoresby side.

Glapwell went close early on when Josh Goodhand’s corner was fumbled by the visiting keeper with Sean Gardner’s header bouncing against the bar and going over.

There were chances for both sides but it was the visitors that broke the deadlock five minutes before half-time when Lewis Bingham tapped home.

The visitors went close to doubling their advantage on 54 minutes when Tony Buchanan played a quick free-kick to Bingham who saw a dipping effort from 25 yards crash back off the crossbar.

Glapwell went close on a couple of occasions as Scott Marshall saw his header blocked on the line before Josh Goodhand warmed the hands of Glenn McPherson from a free-kick.

But Glapwell were level on 73 minutes when Goodhand played a great cross-field ball to find Ash Barber who took his time before finishing inside the near post for his first goal of the season.

In the closing stages, Ross Murcott headed over from a Goodhand corner but in the end the points were shared as Glapwell remain 14th with Thoresby in 15th.

Glapwell are next in action this Wednesday night when they make the trip to face Newark Town, kick-off 7.45pm and are on the road again next Saturday with the long trip to Easington United, kick-off 3pm.
