Alfreton Town’s Sam Berry impressed by club’s vision

Alfreton Town defender Sam Berry says he committed himself to the Reds for the 2015/16 season after being impressed with the club’s plans.

Nottingham-born Sam, 23, who has lived in Ilkeston since he was ten, is a central defender but has plenty of versatility having also played in all positions along the back line and also in central midfield when he was younger.

The talented former Derby County and Sheffield United player ended last season on loan at Kent-based Vanarama National League side Welling United, helping them to safety at the expense of Alfreton on the final day of the season.

He has now chosen to put his roots down much closer to home.

“I spoke to Nicky Law on the phone a few weeks ago and when I met with chairman Wayne Bradley I really liked what he said about the club and what they are planning on doing this season.

“The club are looking to push on next season, bring in young players and try and push them through to higher levels.

“I knew it was the right club for me.”

And having had his holiday back in May, Sam can’t wait for the season to get under way.

“I am really looking forward to it, raring to go.”
