Executive Director of Southwell Racecourse Mark Clayton, said the easing of restrictionss was great news.

He said: “Whilst racing behind closed doors has been hugely important for our industry as a whole, the experience has really reiterated how important having spectators on site is for the sport and welcoming them back from 19th May will be fantastic.

"There remain, of course, some restrictions in place for those looking to attend, which we have been glad to work with Nottingham County Council to develop, to make sure that everyone can enjoy themselves in a safe manner, in accordance with all of the latest public health guidelines.

“As a business, we have a significant role to play in the economy of the area, and this confirmation from the Government is an important next step in our ability to support other local businesses and jobs.
