Attendances up at Southwell Racecourse

It has been a hectic time of things once again at Southwell Racecourse with eight fixtures through the month of December and a big increase in attendance on the popular New Year’s Day fixture.

Despite having to abandon the fixture on 29th December the team at Southwell propelled back into action to get the New Year’s Day fixture on, much to the satisfaction of trainer George Margarson, who took the feature race with his veteran sprinter Woolfall Sovereign, narrowly denying the favourite Dungannon.

The trend of increased attendances has continued right through the “Festive fixtures”, much to the delight of general manager Mark Clayton.

He said: “It’s been tremendous to welcome so many local residents with their families here over the Festive period, and we look forward to welcoming them back throughout 2015.”

As for 2015, Southwell has a lot to look forward to with the mainstay feature racedays such as The Advertiser Ladies Day on 16th August, which in 2014 produced a record crowd together with Family Fun Day on 12th July.

These events are joined in 2015 by new features such as Newark Residents Evening with Live Music on April 17th, an extension of Southwell Residents Evening, a raceday which went down well in 2014 and takes place this year on Tuesday 2nd June.

There are 3 fixtures in the school Easter holidays, coined as “Easter Fun” racedays on 9th and 14th April.
