UPDATE: CCTV appeal success over huge Mansfield fire

Police have thanked people after a successful CCTV appeal for information over a fire in Mansfield.

The former Whiteley Electronics factory on Victoria Street was gutted by the blaze, which broke out on Tuesday, July 31, at about 7.30pm.

More than 20 firefighters spent several hours tackling the fire, which has devastated the interior of the derelict building and left it structurally unsafe.

More than 10 homes were evacuated, with some residents still not allowed to return due to the dangerous state of the building.

Police this evening released images of five youths they wish to trace, but these now been identified, within three hours of the appeal being issued.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: “The cause of the blaze is being investigated by Nottinghamshire Police and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.

“The people pictured in our appeal in connection with a fire at a derelict building in Mansfield have been identified.

“Thank you to all who shared and supported.”

Police are still appealing for information about the fire. Anyone with information is asked to call the force on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting incident number 869 of July 31, 2018.
