Talented Ashfield ballet dancing teen raises thousands of pounds in lockdown dance-a-thon

A talented ballet dancer from Annesley Woodhouse has raised thousands of pounds for good causes with a lockdown dance-athon.

Ruth Lamb, 14 has practised her ballet acrobatic and lyrical routines at home for a total of more than 72 hours to raise more than £7,000 for John Eastwood Hospice Trust and other charities.

Ruth started her fundraising campaign when her friend and costume designer Karen Newbold died in 2018 aged 49.

She said: “After losing my friend Karen I have supported the hospice I have raised over £4500 for them.

“And while I’m in lockdown I really want to raise some more money so as I love to dance.

“I will be dancing every day until lockdown is over for for up to six hours each day and when I reach 100 hours I will continue to do more please give to my page and let’s help others who need it.”

The Ashfield School student dances at the Christine March School of Dance, at The Hall, Beulah Road, Kirkby, which has been running for 52 years.

Recently she has won an outstanding achievement award from Nottinghamshire County Council and has been mentioned in the Pride of Britain twitter and Instagram pages.

Her mum Julie Lamb said: “Is wonderful I’m really proud of her. She’s had quite a few messages from TV personalities which has been nice and encouraging, some are video messages she has been able to post on the just Giving links to boost her fundraising efforts.”

Stars like Alicia Dixon, Keith Lemon and Wayne Sleep and Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langford from This Morning have supported Ruth.

She met Wayne Sleep when he was in panto in Mansfield and has assisted him in his workshops at Mansfield.Karen used to design Ruth’s costumes for her competitions. The fundraising all started when Karen died choreographed a dance for her. She has fundraised for Mansfield teen Jacob Fradgley who is fighting cancer; and Women’s Aid.
