Talented Ruth '˜on point' for stardom

A talented starlet is 'set for a future in dancing' after she took home two first place trophies.

Dance-mad Ruth Lamb came first for her ballet solo at the Above and Beyond dance competition, held at Portland College, off Nottingham Road, Harlow Wood.

And Ruth, who trains five times a week, has just won first place in the Junior Showtime contest organised by Mansfield Rotary Club.

The 11-year-old, of Glebe Street, Annesley Woodhouse, won the final at Mansfield’s Palace Theatre with her ballet routine

Ruth said: “I didn’t believe that I had won at first.”

In both competitions Ruth danced to A Dream is a Wish your Heart Makes, from Disney’s Cinderella.

Ruth said her favourite type of dance is ballet and she wants to be dance teacher when she grows up.

The Ashfield School student dances at the Christine March School of Dance, at The Hall, Beulah Road, Kirkby, which has been running for 52 years.

Caroline Lane, aged 45, who took over the business from her mother, has been teaching Ruth dance since she was three.

She said: “Both comp-

etitions were really prestigious.

“She is really working hard and loves all kind of dance.

“She is a all-rounder really.

“She will do something with dancing, this is just the start of her journey she has a long way to go.”

Ruth, who also preformed in the Christmas production of Jack and the Beanstalk at the Palace Theatre, said preforming on the stage was “really good”.

Ruth also came sixth place in the renowned Association of American ballet and tap scholarships which were held at the Buxton Opera House in October.

Ruth’s two brothers also dance at the same school, while she takes part in senior classes at the dance school.

Her teacher says this shows how comfortable she is in her dancing.

Julie Lamb, 45, Ruth’s mum said: “Our family has been involved in the dance school Ruth goes to for the last 20 years.

“She calls it her first home – she loves being there and she loves ballet.

“I am really proud of her – she has been absolutely buzzing about winning the competitions.

“Her next goal is to be able to do a no-hand cartwheel.”

Proud Julie said Ruth also has a passion for drama and singing.

She is part of the Mansfield Amateur Operatic and Drama Society.

Ruth has been involved in their two latest shows Annie, last year, and Anything Goes in 2016.
