Joanne Young, like many others, found herself out of work during the pandemic but decided to take the opportunity to focus fully on her part-time role as a holistic therapist.

She opened her clinic The Ayurvedic Way on the town’s Ransom Wood business park in December, but only managed to operate for two weeks before a third lockdown was announced.

“Ayurveda is an ancient alternative medicine, still used in India, which combines massage therapies, using lots of organic oils, alongside health and lifestyle changes to treat ailments and improve a client’s health,” she said.

"I’ve always loved it, so it was the perfect chance to focus on it full time when I was made redundant from my job of 22 years.

"It was daunting, but I opened the clinic in mid-December – unfortunately I only managed two weeks before we were locked down again, so I really can’t wait to get back into it.”

Joanne has kept herself busy during lockdown by brushing up on her skills and training in additional therapies to ensure her clinic offers a range of services, which now include a traditional two-hour massage, health and lifestyle consultations and holistic facials.
