Fridges and freezers fly tipped in popular forest spot near Mansfield have now been torched

A number of fridges and freezers reported dumped in a popular forest spot have now been burned out it has been revealed.

Last the week Chad showed the shocking extent of illegal fly-tipping after being contacted by a concerned Mansfield resident.

The reader had spotted dozens of fridges and freezers dumped in an area popular with walkers, horse riders and cyclists down Deerdale Lane, near the Sherwood Pines area.

The forest pathways were choked with household rubbish, builders’ rubble, clothes, plastic toys, empty paint cans and home and office furniture.

Since last week’s stories, the person has again contacted us to say more rubbish has been dumped including an unusual leopard statue.

They said: “We’ve just been down in the Deerdale area again, and since we were there last week someone has been down and set fire to all the fridges and freezers.

"There are also some new bits of rubbish one of which is a leopard statue.”

Private access points from the forest, onto the Desert, a sandy area nearby which has also been plagued by illegal off-road vehicles recently, have also recently been breached.

They added: "The area was was originally blocked with boulders, which had been there for years, but it has now been opened up.

"Someone with some heavy duty machinery has rolled and pushed the boulders from the entry, leaving it wide open to pretty much any vehicle.”
