The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, contacted the Chad about the ‘shocking and disgusting’ issue on Deerdale Lane, near Sherwood Pines, a popular area for dog walkers and ramblers.

“The extent of the rubbish is astounding, it’s shocking, there is everything from household rubbish, to fridges and freezers, clothes, Ugg boots, plastic kitchen things, I’ve even seen cannabis growing equipment,” she said.

"It’s staggering and disgusting – it looks like a council tip. I have contacted Newark and Sherwood District Council but nothing seems to get done. It’s an area where people go to walk their dogs and enjoy the countryside.

A House of Commons briefing paper reported in April,” Some local councils have reported increased incidents of fly-tipping following reductions in refuse services due to Coronavirus-related restrictions.”

Sherwood and Newark District Councillor Paul Peacock said: "We’ve got a good record of clearing away fly-tipping when it is reported and also finding out who has done it and prosecuting, I know our team usually clean up quickly when they have had reports. I need to find out more about this to find out when it was reported. I’ve been pushing for use of more covert TV.

"If anyone knows anything about this incident, they can contact me or Tom Smith or Louis Brailsford, councillors. I know there was a surge when recycle centres were closed during coronavirus but as a council we do all we can to deal with these issues.”
