Joanne Barfield said: “Love this group – there’s so much negativity all over social media, so this is lovely to see."

Brent Ramsell took to the group to share a story of how he had helped a homeless man before Christmas, and wanted to praise the manager of the local hotel who went above and beyond to help.

He said: “I drove past a homeless person, he was really shivering.

"I went back and asked him if I could buy him a coffee from the petrol station and if he would be willing to accept one of my warm spare coats I don't use.

"He was so thankful and appreciative so I returned with various items I got from home.

"I just knew i couldn't leave him out in the cold, especially six days before Christmas so I put one of my dust sheets on my passenger seat, wore my mask & gloves and asked him to get in the car.

"I drove him to The Midland Hotel and paid for two nights, which the lovely manager did at a discounted rate.

"The next day, the manager rang me concerned, saying she could hear him coughing violently – with no answer, she let herself into the room and found him struggling to breathe.

“He was confirmed as positive for COVID-19 and went to hospital – had we not got him off the streets, he may not have survived the night.

"People like that hotel manager are in our community going the extra mile and are making massive impacts on people's lives, so I wanted to thank her publicly.”
