Radio Romantic performed the first gig on new live channel Canvas TV, the brainchild of Mansfield club owner Jono Edwards, to rave reviews.

With the pandemic forcing bars and clubs to remained closed for almost a year, Jono Edwards and his team had to think of innovative ways to entertain the masses and supporting the performers who usually grace the stage at their venues each week.

Canvas TV was launched, with eighties band Radio Romantic playing a live gig which was streamed to homes around the town, with more than two thousand households tuning in.

Jono said: “We are obviously missing our tribute nights and we know that our customers are finding lockdown hard too.

“We were also aware that performers are struggling and wanted to try and support them too, so Canvas TV was born.

"The first gig was a trial run, and gave us chance to iron out a few technical issues, but it was a great night and thousands tuned in.”

The gigs are performed live with minimal socially-distanced teams recording and streaming the event.

With many who were watching wishing to buy a drink or tip the band, Jono also announced around £500 would make its way to Radio Romantic from viewers’ generous PayPal donations.

Linzi Pownall watched the gig from her living room, and said: “It was a fab night, did not realise how much it would lift my spirits on a Saturday night.

"If you are on your own, or even with someone, this just brings the energy you may need.
