Donations have flooded into Mansfield District Council's Sponsor a Bauble and Secret Santa appeals as the December 10 deadline approaches.

Mansfield Rotary Club has helped the appeal by donating more than £1,000 worth of food to help vulnerable people struggling to put food on the table this Christmas.

The club has made their own donation with Rotary4Food donating a further £250 worth of goodies to help the council fill 200 food hampers with everything needed for a Christmas dinner, including festive treats. The club is supported by Morrisons supermarket and Asda has also donated a selection of food items.

Smyths Toys has donated toys, wrapping paper and offered a discount on toys for the Secret Santa Appeal, which provides gifts for people who may not receive much for Christmas this year.

The council has been working with Mansfield Children's Centre, who are among those who will help distribute gifts to those who need it most. The appeals run alongside Mansfield 103.2’s King’s Mill Hospital Toy Appeal, of which the council is the main sponsor this year.

Executive Mayor Andy Abrahams, said: "We are overwhelmed to have exceeded the fundraising targets in both our Christmas appeals with time left to spare.

“Thank you to everybody who has donated – your kindness and generosity really will make a difference to someone’s Christmas. There’s still time for anyone who wants to donate to do so before the end of the day on Thursday, December 10 which will enable us to help even more people," he said.

"The virus pandemic has left many people facing an uncertain future and many families are worrying about how they will manage this Christmas.

"The success of these appeals shows there is plenty of community and Christmas spirit in Mansfield despite the difficult and challenging times we find ourselves in."
