Mansfield Palace Theatre upgrades are good for audience and environment

The Mansfield Palace Theatre has completed a programme of upgrades to improve audience experience and make shows more environmentally friendly.

As part of Mansfield Council and one of Arts Council England's National Portfolio Organisations, the theatre continues its commitment to reducing its environmental impact while investing in the future of the venue.

During the summer, the theatre completed major upgrades to its stage lighting, sound systems and stage floor in time for an exciting new season of shows, including this season’s pantomime, Cinderella.

A brand-new lighting control system has been installed allowing for more LED lights to be used and as a result will reduce energy consumption, while aspects of the sound system have been improved to enhance audio quality.

A fresh stage floor also gives performers new boards to tread in the famous old venue.

Coun Stuart Richardson (Lab), portfolio holder for regeneration and growth, said: “The Mansfield Palace Theatre stage is iconic and has played a central role in the cultural life of our district for generations.

"These upgrades are not only an investment in the building itself, but also an investment in our cultural offer, ensuring the people of Mansfield continue to have access to first-class entertainment and the arts.

"As we welcome audiences back for our autumn season, we're excited to showcase a theatre that is better equipped, more sustainable and ready for the future.”

Christopher Neil, cultural services manager at the theatre, added: “The new stage upgrades are going to enhance the experience for everyone who comes to one of our shows, while also lowering our costs so we can continue to provide first class entertainment for Mansfield.

"This investment in our equipment will make the theatre more efficient in terms of the power we use.

"The system will also mean that we can continue moving from traditional theatre lighting to the more efficient and ecologically sustainable LED and intelligent lighting.

"The new stage looks great and is ready to support the next generation of performers, from local amateur theatre groups and dance schools to major professional touring productions.”
