A courageous young girl from Mansfield Woodhouse has donated her waist-length hair and a huge sum of money to the Little Princess Trust.

Lydia Bell decided she wanted to cut her hair short and donate it to a charity which provides wigs for young people going through cancer treatment or hair loss.

The plucky seven-year-old, supported by parents Karis and Nicky Bell, had 12 inches of her hair cut off by Grace at GHM Hair.

She has so far raised £600 in sponsorship – which is more than enough to pay for the hair to be processed into a wig by the charity.

Proud Mum Karis said: “Lydia’s hair was below her waist, and she just decided one day she wanted to have it all cut off.

"We were so nervous, but she was so adamant that she wanted it doing, she was just excited on the day.

“We are blown away by everyone’s kindness and can’t believe the total so far.

"Lydia is so pleased with the amount she managed to raise and keeps looking in the mirror at her hair.

"We are very proud of her.”

The Little Princess Trust provide free, real hair wigs to help restore confidence and identity to young people who lose their hair due to cancer or other illness.

By donating hair or money, the organisation fund wigs and ground-breaking childhood cancer research projects.
