Mansfield girl, 6 with autism to sell amazing artwork for charity

When six year old Chloe Wright entered a council drawing competition she revealed a stylised artistic talent which shone through despite her daily struggles.

Now Chloe and proud mum Kerry of Forest Town hope to sell the series of pictures of Mansfield heritage buildings to raise money for a charity group for families and children with autism.

Kerry, 35, said: “Chloe was diagnosed with autism from the age of three.

“She struggles in a lot of areas but she has always had an interest in art. I have always tried to encourage her - I am always putting paper out for her.”

The young Abbey Primary School pupil has drawn a set of pictures for a Mansfield District Council competition where she has to draw or paint one of Mansfield heritage buildings.

Chloe ended up drawing a whole set of them - the town centre, Church Street, the war memorial and the Vault pub.

“I am always proud of Chloe's work but while looking at these images I thought they would look amazing framed on the wall,” said Kerry.

“I love the style of Quentin Blake and there are a lot of his pictures on her wall.

“All of a sudden I noticed that her work is getting to that style.

“Some people ask why would other people put them up on their wall because it wouldn’t have meaning to them.

“But but how people see art is very different for each person and there’s a link to Mansfield.”

She suggested selling the pictures as prints to her daughter

“ I gave her an option. would she like to sell some prints and keep the money all to herself so she could buy a nice toy, or would she like to raise some money so she can help other children and give it to a local charity group called Spectrum Wasp helps families and children with autism.

“Chloe made me so proud when she didn't hesitate to think. her answer straight away was give it to the children.

"This is a group that has helped Chloe so much through lockdown and she wants to be able to do something to give back to them. I was thinking a set of these images might appeal to some of the local businesses, pubs, Mansfield museum, the library or even to people that just love the art work. Maybe I'm being biased as a parent and will be proud of anything my daughter does. but I do honestly think there is a small market for these prints and hopefully Chloe can raise a few funds for her chosen charity.”
