In a bid to bring old and young together via art, the Red Oaks Care Community in Clipstone Road West launched the ‘Keep in Touch’ competition and urged children aged between five and 11 years to submit their artistic masterpieces.

The competition entries have raised many smiles during the many weeks of lockdown, during which residents have been shielded from friends and family.

Residents had the difficult job of choosing a winner but decided that Maisie Gilberthorpe, aged nine, from Mansfield, came out on top.

Lin Amos, general manager of Red Oaks, is elated at the success of the competition and has seen a variety of inspiring entries focusing on the colour theme red.

She said: “The coronavirus lockdown has encouraged many of us to find or bring out our creative flare.

"We have all had to adapt to the changes within the home and increasing our activity schedule has also prevented loneliness and isolation.

“We are really impressed with the quantity and quality of entries we have received from the children of Mansfield.

"It has been an exciting time for our esteemed judges.

“One-to-one care is paramount at Red Oaks. Ensuring residents are comfortable and are offered plenty of opportunities to engage with one another is something we take lots of pride in.

"This competition has been a great way for all of our residents to take part in low impact group activities.

“We would be keen to run another competition like this in the future.”
