Police move to reassure residents over Mansfield town centre 'shooting' video

A number of videos and posts on Facebook and TikTok had alleged that there had been a possible shooting in the town centre last night, Wednesday, February 2, at about 7pm.
The videos, which had been widely circulated on various social media platforms, depict a number of voices heard shouting before four or five ‘shots’ can be heard.

Hide AdNottinghamshire Police have moved to reassure worried residents and have confirmed to your Chad that the incident was an ‘organised police training event’.
Chief Inspector Steven O’Neill, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “A training exercise was carried out at the Mansfield Four Seasons shopping centre on Wednesday February 2.
“Officers worked through a simulated drill which allowed them to practice a number of potentially life-saving techniques in a controlled environment.
“Exercises such as this are an essential part of our general training programme.

Hide Ad"They are vital to ensure our officers are able to respond swiftly and efficiently to potential threats in order to keep the public safe.
“The exercise, which was carried out while the centre was closed, was not conducted in response to any specific threat to the county or the centre.
"The area was tightly controlled and we are grateful to the shopping centre for allowing us to use their premises for the exercise.”
