Jobs boost for Chesterfield as Nando’s opens its doors
The hotly-anticipated South African eaterie launch at the site of the former Blockbuster store on Alma Leisure Park earlier today.
Nando’s devotee Jared Shooter, of Chesterfield, was given the opportunity of a lifetime after winning a Facebook competition to open the new restaurant.

Hide AdAs well as cutting the all-important ribbon, Jared, 19, was the very first customer to sample the infamous flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken.
Andy Crook, Nando’s regional managing director, said: “Chesterfield is clearly hungry for chicken, so we’re delighted to be finally opening a restaurant in the area to satisfy people’s cravings.”
A Nando’s spokesman added: “The restaurant stays true to Nando’s unique Afro-Portuguese roots with a stunning design seating up to 128 guests.
“The opening has also created 30 new jobs for the local area, ranging from cashiers and grillers to assistant managers.

The Derbyshire Times revealed in March that the popular chicken restaurant chain was coming to Chesterfield – sparking massive interest.
Founded in 1987, Nando’s operates about 1,000 outlets in 24 countries.
