Trial set for driver in Mansfield Woodhouse collision that injured man and two kids

A man involved in a road traffic accident in Mansfield Woodhouse in which the other driver and two children were seriously injured has been sent to Nottingham Crown Court for trial.

Aurel Niculae, aged 42, of Howard Road, Mansfield, denied three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving when he appeared at Mansfield Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The collision between a black Renault Laguna and a white Vauxhall Movano van occurred on New Mill Lane on July 5 last year.

It is alleged the defendant was on the wrong side of the road at the time.

The driver of the other vehicle and two children were seriously injured and required hospital treatment, said Sanjay Jerath, prosecuting.

He added that the correct venue for this case is the crown court due to the complexity of expert evidence.

The case was adjourned and Niculae was granted unconditional bail until July 21 when he must appear at Nottingham Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
