Suspected drink driver bailed after Sutton Tesco Express crash

A suspected drink-driver who smashed a van into the window of Tesco Express in Sutton has been charged with a slew of offences.

Nathan Smith, 30, appeared before magistrates today (Saturday) following the Mansfield Road crash on Thursday at about 8.50pm.

Police rushed to the scene of the collision however they have confirmed that no-one was hurt.

However they say the incident was ‘shocking’ for those who witnessed it.

Smith, of no fixed abode, has been charged with criminal damage, drink driving, driving without insurance and driving a vehicle otherwise in accordance with a licence.

Inspector Mark Dickson, district commander for Ashfield, said: “This was a shocking incident for the people who witnessed it and I am relieved that nobody was hurt.

“I’d also like to commend the officers who attended for their swift and professional response to this unusual scene.”

The defendant appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court this morning and has been released on bail.
