Public praised for aiding Nottinghamshire police officer who was attacked trying to arrest man

A police car was travelling along Ashgate Road, Hucknall, at around 5pm on Sunday when a car lost control and crashed into another vehicle in front of the officer.
When the officer checked on the welfare of the driver, a man appeared to hide a suspicious bag behind the passenger seat.
Cannabis was recovered from the bag.

Hide AdThe officer suffered injuries while trying to arrest the man in connection with the incident.
Members of the public saw what was happening and helped the officer in detaining the man, who was subsequently arrested.
Chief Inspector Steven O’Neill, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Officer assaults are completely unacceptable and we will always take action against those who commit such offences.
“I’d like to thank the members of the public who came to the aid of the officer who was in a difficult situation.

Hide Ad“Thankfully, the officer only suffered minor injuries in the incident.
“The 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker, possession with intent to supply drugs, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving with no insurance and taking a vehicle without owner consent.
“We take drugs and driving offences very seriously and will always investigate reports made to Nottinghamshire Police,” he added.
