A man was hospitalised after he was left with a broken cheekbone and eye socket following a brutal assault in a Mansfield nightclub.

The victim was punched in the face by an unknown man on a night out at Rush late bar on Clumber Street in the town centre.

He was assaulted on the dance floor inside the night club at around 3am on March 14, after an accidental bump between the two men.

Officers issued an appeal for witnesses who saw what happened earlier this year and a 20-year-old man has since been arrested in connection with assault.

Detective Sergeant Matt Scott, leading the investigation said: "Officers were called following the nasty assault.

"The victim was taken to Kings Mill Hospital and then transferred to Queen's Medical Centre for further treatment.

"A 20-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of wounding/GBH with intent.

"He remains in police custody."
