Man arrested in Mansfield after knife found in car

A man was arrested after being stopped and searched by specialist knife crime officers in Mansfield.

Members of Nottinghamshire Police’s knife crime team pulled over a car in George Street shortly after 9pm last night, Thursday, September 3.

After discovering a knife inside the vehicle they arrested the driver, an 18-year-old man, on suspicion of possessing a bladed article. He remains in police custody.

The knife crime team is a county-wide resource that is invited to neighbourhood areas to carry out proactive patrols to take knives, other weapons and drugs off the streets.

Inspector Nick Butler, district commander for Mansfield, said: “We regularly invite the knife crime team to conduct proactive patrols in the area to take dangerous weapons on our streets.

"Working on community led intelligence they target suspect cars and individuals at all hours of the day and night. We’ll continue in the area to get weapons off our streets.”
