Man arrested after stabbing in Mansfield

A man has been arrested after a man was stabbed at a petrol station.

Officers were called to a house in Mansfield on Sunday evening following a report of a man hitting a front door.

They arrested a 45-year-old on suspicion of criminal damage in Lindley Street in Mansfield.

Whilst he was in custody he was searched and found to be in possession of a bladed article and an offensive weapon.

Around 45-minutes after the initial call, the local ambulance service called the force after a report of a 33-year-old man had been stabbed multiple times and was receiving treatment on a garage forecourt.

Sgt Carl Holland said: "Officers were called to a petrol station in Rosemary Street in Mansfield in the early hours of Monday morning following a report of a man being stabbed.

"A 33-year-old man suffered three puncture wounds to his leg, and further injuries to his head and his arm.

"His injuries were treated at hospital and have been described as not life altering.

"A 45-year old was arrested prior to that incident and has since been charged in relation to both the stabbing and the criminal damage.

"This was excellent speedy teamwork by the forces Criminal Investigation Department and Prison Handling teams.

“Nottinghamshire Police takes knife crime very seriously and we will thoroughly investigate any incident reported to the force.

Jason Smith, 45 of no fixed address has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon, possession of a bladed article and criminal damage and remanded to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on 20 October 2020.
