Emergency services were called to reports of a casualty on the tracks near the station, just outside Sutton-in-Ashfield, yesterday, Monday, October 19, shortly after 9pm.

A British Transport Police spokesman said one woman, aged 18, had been pronounced dead at the scene, while a 17-year-old girl was this morning being treated in hospital for ‘serious injuries’.

“Officers are working to establish the full circumstances behind this incident,” he added.

Police said they were unable to provide any further details at this time.

It is understood the tragedy happened at the Barringers foot crossing, close to Maun View Gardens, which is around 200 metres from the station.

The line was closed following the tragedy last night, with trains on the Worksop, Mansfield and Nottingham route affected, but a normal service is running today.
