Police and Ashfield District Council’s private sector enforcement team attended Outram Street after concerns were raised about bypassed electrics.

Police Sergeant Kate Long, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We attended a series of addresses at around 6pm and the council served a number of prohibition notices as our investigation continues into these properties.”

Searches for cannabis grows take place on a regular basis across the county and officers are appealing to residents to tell them about suspected activity.

PS Long said: “We work on intelligence and information from the local community and we act on anything we receive.

“We are dedicated to interrupting drug supply in our area.

“It preys on vulnerable people, fuels crime and causes nuisance to those who live nearby.”

The plea for information comes after £80,000 worth of cannabis was found at a house in Alfreton Road, Sutton, on July 10 (pictured above).

Officers had attended the address having received information from a member of the public.

The cannabis plants were taken away and destroyed by police and one man has been voluntary interviewed in connection to this incident which remains ongoing.

PS Long added: “We really want our residents to have confidence that we are actively doing everything we can to make their area as safe as possible and that we take their concerns seriously.

"They can speak to us confidentially and we will act on that information, as well as conducting our own operations.”

Councillor Helen-Ann Smith, deputy leader of Ashfield District Council, said: “We are working proactively with our police colleagues to crack down on drug crime.

“We understand the impact of drugs on our society so to cut it off at the source is vital.

“We rely on reports from the public in order to act on crime and this is a great example of just that.

“We will continue to work closely with Nottinghamshire Police wherever possible – because we are committed to making sure our residents feel safe in our communities.”
